What Should Be Included in a Landscaping Quote?
· Last updated

A good landscaping quote spells out exactly what will be installed, how much of it, how the site will be prepared, what happens to removed material, and what is guaranteed afterward. If two quotes do not list the same items, they are not really comparable.
What should the quote list?
- Design or plan: a sketch or description of where everything goes.
- Plants: species, size (gallon or caliper) and count.
- Materials: mulch, stone, soil, edging, sod — by type and quantity (cubic yards, tons, square feet).
- Site preparation: removal of old plants or grass, grading, soil amendment.
- Drainage: any grading or drain work, which matters with Middle Tennessee's clay soil.
- Disposal: hauling away debris.
- Labor: included or itemized.
- Timeline: start window and duration.
- Warranty: how long plants are guaranteed and what voids it.
Is hardscaping quoted differently?
Usually yes. Patios, walls and walkways should list the base material and depth, the paver or stone type, and square footage. See hardscaping costs.
What about irrigation?
If a system is included, the quote should list zones, head types and whether a backflow device and permit are needed. Browse irrigation and sprinkler companies.
What is a red flag in a landscaping quote?
A single lump sum with no quantities, no plant sizes, no warranty, or a large payment requested before any material arrives.
